Hearing Aid Batteries

Hearing Aid Batteries Essential for Proper Operation

For many decades now, people with some degree of hearing loss have benefited greatly from the availability of assistive listening devices, such as hearing aids. However, without a source of energy to power them, these small devices become useless. This is why it is so important to be sure the hearing aid batteries are kept in good condition and are checked regularly as part of normal maintenance.

There is a wide array of different styles, models and brands of hearing aid products on the market and as a result there is also a wide array of hearing aid batteries that are designed to work with these different models of hearing devices. It is important to be sure that the correct type of hearing aid battery is purchased for the hearing instrument or there can be damage, not only to the device but also to the hearing of the person wearing the device with the wrong battery.

Adding to the possible confusion is the fact that virtually all hearing aid batteries are small and round in shape and as a result can be easily mistaken for different models. Each battery will be engraved on the surface with the model number of the individual battery, with the manufacturer's name, and the voltage of the tiny power cell.

The problem with the etchings that are engraved on these batteries is that they are also very small and often extremely difficult to read. As a result, in addition to the etchings to help identify the different models of batteries, they are also marked with colored bands around them. These colored bands help to further distinguish the various battery models, so that they can more quickly and easily be recognized, reducing the risk of confusion between models.

When purchasing batteries for hearing aids, the packaging that holds them usually has large and easy to read markings to help people be sure they are getting the right model of battery. The main problem can be trying to read the engraving of the existing battery in the hearing aid because it is so small. A good tip is to write down the exact model on a card that you carry in your purse or wallet, so that you always have it on hand when at the store. This simple tip can help to reduce errors when buying batteries for your hearing aid products, which will not only reduce problems with having the wrong battery but will also save money in the long run.

It is difficult to identify an exact length of time that hearing aid batteries are expected to last, partly because of the variance in size and capacity of each battery. Many times, the larger batteries do tend to last longer, but if they are used in a hearing aid device that draws more power, then the battery life will be reduced accordingly.
