Hearing Loss
Hearing loss could happen to anyone and can happen for a variety of different reasons. People can get hearing loss from being exposed to loud noises and explosions. Babies can experience hearing loss from a really bad ear infection. Musicians can also get hearing loss by being exposed to loud music for prolonged and repeated periods of time. Whatever the reason for the hearing loss one thing is certain- you can't hear.
So what happens when the hearing loss gets so bad that you can't hear anything? Well, if you are not completely deaf, getting a hearing aid can help a lot. Being able to hear people is essential for communication and other tasks such as driving a car. Besides, it would be nice if you can hear the sounds in the world around you. It is amazing the sheer variety of them.
Hearing loss is something that can be difficult to measure. Sometimes it happens so gradually, such as over a lifetime, that it may take years before you begin to notice. You may not even notice and you may be almost completely reliant on other people telling you that you did not hear what they said. Once the hearing loss gets so noticeable that you need to be told that you did not hear something then it is time to do something about it.
There is plenty of hearing loss specialists out there who could help you with your problem. They can help you determine what your options are and how bad the damage is. If you suspect you have hearing loss, make an appointment with your doctor to get the situation checked out. They will them recommend a course or action that will get you to the point where you will be able to hear again.
Unfortunately, once hearing loss happens, you cannot gain it back unless the loss is caused by something like wax or congestion. If you have wax that is causing hearing loss, your doctor will help you remove it with a special tool or give you instructions on how to flush it out yourself. If you have congestion, taking a decongestant will help. Hearing loss is permanent but only if it is caused by damage created by noises that were too loud.
